Albufeira Hotels

About

Albufeira started out as a sleepy little fishing village on the southern coast of Portugal, and has slowly morphed into a popular beach town through the years. Craggy cliffs add drama to the landscape, and white Moorish architecture sparkles in the year round sun.  If you love the beach, and are looking for a unique and decidedly less well-known locale to escape to, Albufeira might be your perfect holiday destination.

Where to Stay

For such a small beach town, there are plenty of lodging options that dot the rocky coast of Albufeira.  There is something for every travel taste and budget, from resorts to boutique hotels to bed and breakfast inns to vacation rentals.  Depending on the length of your stay, your budget, and your desire to cook and clean for yourself, there is something with a lovely view to be found.

Sweeping ocean views, spacious guest rooms, excellent amenities, and top notch service are just a few of the things that make Riu Palace Algarve one Albufeira’s most highly rated hotels.  Enjoy the indoor pool, a well-equipped fitness center, and delicious food, all at a very reasonable price.

Perfect for family vacations, the Sheraton Algarve Hotel wins high marks for service and amenities.  This cliff-top hotel provides postcard perfect beach views for its guests, and activities are plentiful.  Enjoy golfing, tennis, swimming, dining, and a private beach.  There is even a kid’s club, so the younger members of the family can have their own grade of fun.

Located near Albufeira in the little town of Ohlos de Agua, Porto Bay Falesia is a family-friendly resort that specializes in relaxation.  There are plenty of activities to enjoy if you choose, including tennis, swimming, and a fitness center.  A relaxing massage at the spa will rejuvenate your spirit, and a stroll along the picturesque beach will invigorate you.

Where to Eat

Traditional Portuguese cuisine is abundant in Albuferia, along with fresh fish and seafood.  You should have no trouble finding a great meal, whether it’s at the restaurant in your hotel, or at a local place by the beach.

Dom Carlos Restaurant is a little pricier than some of the other local places, but one taste of the food, prepared lovingly by the hosts, and it will be worth it.  A great place for a romantic dinner or a special occasion, you will want to visit this homey place more than once during your trip.

Vila Joya boasts amazing views, a wide and creative menu, an impressive wine selection, and a friendly and attentive staff.  It doesn’t get much better, and locals and visitors alike will attest to this.  Your meal won’t be rushed, so sit back, sip your wine, and enjoy the entire experience.

When you visit Johnny Hooper’s Saxophone Bistro, it is the complete experience: food, atmosphere, and live entertainment.  A great way to spend an evening, enjoy raucous live music courtesy of Johnny Hooper himself, enjoy the delicious menu of grilled local meats and seafood, and lose yourself in all of the fun.

What to Do

The beaches are the main attraction in Albufeira, with jewel-toned cliff looming over the shore, and the beautiful turquoise waters beckoning.  But there are plenty of other adventures that can be pursued during your visit to Albufeira, activities that will appeal to both outdoor lovers and history buffs.

Take a boat tour of the scenic coastline, and look for dolphins playing in the sea.  Or go on a deep sea fishing excursion.  Visit Adega do Cantor, and tour the scenic Portuguese winery, and enjoy plenty of tasty samples.

Take a tour of the historic ruins of Roman Portugal, a fascinating cultural and educational experience for everyone in the family.

When to Visit

The fortunately beautiful climate of Albufeira makes it an ideal destination any time of year.  The high season is in the summer, when prices and temperatures are highest.  Winter time is temperate and mild, and the crowds are nonexistent.
